After much searching for ideas on a cake of this sort, I was able to bake this beauty for my nephew and boy was he stoked to see it on his 5th birthday!
So I am kind to share with you my directions and recipe.
Materials:
Shushkabob skewers-3
1 sheet paper
1 box of chocolate cake
1 container of betty crocker chocolate icing
1cont. Of blue ocean icing with fish sprinkles (pillsberry)
1 squeezze cont. Of yellow icing
1 container of chocolate dollar store wafers
1 box of swedish fish
1 box or small pack candy whoppers (cannonballs)
A bag of chocolate coins (party city)
Pack of assorted pirate candles (party city)
Jack and the neverland pirate stickers (party city)
Lighter
Bread baking dish
Long non serrated Knife
Directions:
1. Bake cake mix as directed on box, in bread pan
2. Cool then cut into shape of a ship without cutting too much of the sides diagnally or the ship will fall to one side
3. Cover in chocolate icing
4. ASsemble whoppers with icing into shape of cannonballs 2 on bottom, one on top wherever you please on the cake
5. Pipe with a tip 21 , blue icing into wave like pattern on base for your cake , all around
6. Assemble swedish fish and fish sprinkles onto blue icing
7. Cut paper into 3 flags for ship, 1 large ,,,1 medium, one small, write Happy on large , Birthday on medium, and the name of the child on the small flag , burn the edges with the lighter without setting the entire flag on fire, just blow it out as soon as it sets ablaze
8. Cut skewers in 3 different hieghts, tape flags onto front of each skewer reading happy birthday from back to front of cake , place large one (Birthday) in center (dipped part of cake), medium (Happy)on back deck of cake, and small (child's name) skewer on the front deck
9. Use piece of net from gold coins as fish net to hang off back edge of cake and place some fish sprinkles in it
10. Assemble candles and stickers where you please on the cake and in the ocean
